HISTORY OF THE SEMC

There are a number of Magic Conventions held in the UK throughout the year, aimed at the Magic community, most of these are annual events, and have been in existence for many years.

The general feeling among many magicians was that the South of England lacked a modern magic convention. Collin Richardson & Geoff Pescud upon seeing this gap, decided to create something fresh & exciting, thus the SEMC was born in 2009.

The first convention was held in Lakeside, Frimley, and attracted over several hundred magicians from all parts of the country, including many who came from overseas.

A vast array of magic dealers were in attendance – and a Gala Show of magical entertainment was held in the evening.

The event was a huge success, and proved that fellow magicians would support the venture – and a vow was made to return the following year with another convention to build on the success of the first.

However, the following year in 2010 the event did not take place because the main organiser, Collin Richardson was scheduled to have an operation, & with no date set for that, & not knowing as to if he would be in good enough health to continue with the massive organisation of the event, he decided not to go ahead with the event.

Collin has since had the operation, & is back to full health again & is raring to go for the 2011 Southern England Magic Convention!

The current organisers (Collin & his team) decided a change of venue would benefit the SEMC, and from a short list of ten potential venues across the UK the coastal town of Bournemouth was chosen to host the event.

Bournemouth is a great town and a perfect base for what is planned. As well as having great accomodation and sandy beaches, the town has a variety of shops, restaurants and bars etc, it even has it’s own Magic Studio!

Getting to Bournemouth is easy, with excellent transport links. We are sure our new home will be a tremendous bonus to our delegates.
